Note: This post contains mentions of sexual abuse.

We recently asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell us which celebrity moments were actually toxic. Here are the eye-opening results:

1. "When Vanessa Hudgens commented that people dying is 'inevitable' at the beginning of COVID."

"Like, 'Okay we’re all going to die,' doesn’t make belittling pandemic deaths okay. People always say she’s sweet, but I see no sweetness from her. My grandma died right after she said that, too, and her words still sting."

—rrshirley90

Back in March 2020, the High School Musical star went on a rant about COVID on Instagram Live and said, "But like, it's a virus. I get it, I respect it. But at the same time, like, even if everyone gets it, like yeah, people are gonna die, which is terrible, but like, inevitable? I don't know, maybe I shouldn't be doing this right now."

After receiving backlash, Vanessa shared another video on her Instagram, where she encouraged people to stay inside, said her comments were "taken out of context," and mentioned she's not taking the situation "lightly by any means."

2. "When Sia cast Maddie Ziegler as a girl who's autistic and non-verbal in her film, Music."

The film was met with criticism after the trailer dropped, with people highlighting many issues, like the movie's depiction of autism and the fact that a non-disabled actor was cast to play a character with a disability.

Hollywood strikes again with another film where non-disabled actors play disabled roles. Having a neurotypical play an autistic person is offensive enough; rolling this trailer out at the start of #DisabilityHistoryMonth is a kick in the bloody teeth.

No captions, either. https://t.co/VJOnVUv9Mz

Sia initially defended the decisions in the movie, and then apologized in a series of tweets that were later deleted. "I listened to the wrong people and that is my responsibility, my research was clearly not thorough enough, not wide enough," she reportedly said on Twitter.

3. "When Wendy Williams went on Conan and talked about how her son once walked in on her fellating her husband — and she kept going."

Demi criticized The Bigg Chill, a frozen yogurt shop in LA, for selling "sugar-free cookies" and "diet foods."

The Bigg Chill responded on their own Instagram story, explaining their menu items: "We carry items for diabetics, Celiac disease, vegan, and of course have many indulgent items as well."

After receiving backlash and resolving things in a private conversation with the shop via Instagram DMs, Demi apologized for the post in a video: "I’m sorry that I got the messaging wrong. I'm sorry that I may have disappointed some people," Demi said. "I walked into a situation that didn't sit right with me, my intuition said speak up about this, so I did."

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Matt recalled when his daughter recently confronted him about the slur. "The word that my daughter calls the ‘f-slur for a homosexual’ was commonly used when I was a kid, with a different application," he said. "I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter."

"She left the table. I said, ‘Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie Stuck on You!’ She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous," he mentioned.

7. "When Kate and Prince William stood by and did presumably nothing every single time Meghan Markle got publicly slandered by the UK press."

During their tell-all interview with Oprah, which aired in March 2021, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry opened up about life in the royal family and dealing with public pressure. Meghan claimed that in the midst of several rumors and attacks from tabloid stories, the royal family did not correct them. Meghan said the royal family was "willing to lie to protect other members of the family, but they weren’t willing to tell the truth to protect me and my husband."

8. "I can't get over how Travis Scott didn't take enough responsibility for the Astroworld tragedy. Every gig I’ve been to, if someone is down, the artist stops the show."

Ten people were killed during Travis's performance at the Astroworld festival in November 2021. According to the Houston fire chief, the "mass casualty event" occurred when people "began to compress towards the front of the stage."

Following the incident, Travis released a statement on Twitter, which included: "I'm absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival."

And in his first interview after the festival, Travis was asked by Charlamagne tha God if he felt people were "forcing responsibility" onto him for the tragedy. Travis responded, "Well, yeah, you know, I'm the face of the festival, I’m an artist," he said. "So yeah, the media is… They wanna put it on me."

He also added, "I definitely wanna step in to figure out how can we fix this in the future. What can we do to change these things?"

9. "How Tom Hiddleston has a letter from Woody Allen framed in his office after working with him on Midnight in Paris — and how he's never publicly spoken out against him."

Several actors — including Marion Cotillard, Colin Firth, Rachel Brosnahan, and Timothée Chalamet — publicly expressed regret working with Allen, who was accused of sexually abusing his daughter, Dylan Farrow, when she was a child.

10. "Every comment Kanye has made in the past couple weeks about Kim Kardashian. Boy, go get a life. She doesn’t want you back."

Since Kim filed for divorce in February 2021 after seven years of marriage, Kanye has spoken quite a bit about their relationship and his desire to "get his family back together." Back in December, he even sang for Kim to "run right back" to him while performing on stage at his and Drake’s "Free Larry Hoover" concert.

Kanye has since appeared to move on and has been spotted with different women. Actor Julia Fox recently confirmed her relationship with him.

11. And finally: "When Ellen made Taylor Swift play a game during her interview where she had to say if she dated a guy or not — and then proceeded to say she was lying when she said she was single."
