Parkland Students Get a Standing Ovation For Their Tearjerking Tony Awards Performance

The Tonys is the best awards show. This tribute to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School sung by the school's drama students was amazing!!! Seasons of Love was the perfect song for them to perform. #TonyAwards pic.twitter.com/W8R2jb4PEK

The Tony Awards was full of showstopping performances on Sunday night, but one of the most emotional was from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School drama department. During the show, the students and survivors of the Parkland, FL, school shooting gave a stirring rendition of "Seasons of Love" from Rent, which moved most of the audience to tears and received a standing ovation.

The Tonys also took a moment to honor the school's drama teacher Melody Herzfeld, who helped hide students in the drama room during the shooting, by awarding her with the 2018 Excellence in Theatre Education Award. "All the goodness and tragedy that has brought me to this point will never be erased," she said during her acceptance speech. Grab some tissues and watch the performance above.
