On Thursday, Kanye West joined Donald Trump for a working lunch, thereby seemingly cementing the fact that his support and admiration for the president is sincere and not the result of an elaborate PR stunt, as many of his fans speculated.
They ate roasted chicken and Caprese salad and discussed prison reform and the Music Modernization Act, which the White House has previously described as a push to “close loopholes in our digital royalty laws to ensure that songwriters, artists, producers, and providers receive fair payment for the licensing of music.”
Kanye being Kanye, he also went on a somewhat bizarre rant that included mental health, the 13th Amendment, and a hydrogen plane that he wants Apple to make for Trump. It almost made Elon Musk’s marijuana-fueled musings on the end of the universe seem sensible.
One of the most widely-publicized moments from the rant came when Kanye unlocked his phone in order to show Trump a GIF and seemed to unwittingly reveal to the whole world that his passcode is 000000.

But in all the hubbub over his passcode, everyone seemed to miss one other very noteworthy thing that happened: the moment he gifted Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner custom-made MAGA-style hats. Trump’s reads, “Make America Great,” whereas Ivanka’s says, “Make Earth Great Again,” and Jared’s reads, “Travel Space Again.”

According to TMZ, West gave Trump the re-designed hat as a sign that America still needs work. He also said that he’ll start wearing the new version of the hat himself soon, and plans to create a factory in Chicago called “Larry’s” (named after Larry Hoover, the Chicago gang leader serving six life sentences for murder), where he would hire former inmates to make the hats and other merchandise.
Earlier in the rant, West also talked about what the MAGA hat, which he has repeatedly received hate for wearing, meant to him.
“They tried to scare me to not wear this hat. My own friends. But this hat, it gives me power in a way,” he said. “You know my dad and my mom separated, so I didn’t have a lot of male energy in my home. And also, I’m married to a family that, um, you know, not a lot of male energy going on…I love Hillary. I love everyone. But the campaign ‘I’m With Her’ just didn’t make me feel—as a guy that didn’t get to see his dad all the time—like a guy that could play catch with his son. It was something about when I put this hat on, it made me feel like Superman.”
