When you're a kid, making friends is pretty straightforward. You meet in the sandbox or find out that you and a classmate love the same cartoon, and by that night, you're asking your mom if you can have a playdate with your new best friend. As you get older, making new friends gets more challenging — and by the time you're out of college and in the workforce, you've probably formed an inner circle. While many adults are content to stop there (no new friends and all that), if you find yourself looking for some new people to hang out with and aren't sure where to start, look no further than your trusty zodiac sign.
When trying to meet new people, "lean into your zodiac sign's strengths and interests," says astrologer Daniela Karpenos, founder of The Cosmic Latte. "This helps find like-minded people who share your interests and want to participate in the same activities." After all, astrological compatibility isn't just for romantic partners.
Karpenos notes that consistency is also key when you want to make new friends. "Being in the same place at least three times creates familiarity," she says. "The more you go somewhere, the more situations arise to get to know people." So where should you go to find your new bestie? Here are some tips based on your zodiac sign.

Aries (March 20-April 19)
Aries is a cardinal fire sign known for intensity and passion. The sun is exalted in Aries, so typically, Aries are energetic, youthful, and independent. If that's you, take advantage of your adventurous nature and try something new and exciting, like joining a rec sports league or taking yourself out on a solo date to your favorite bar to mingle. If you're feeling especially daring and want to meet equally brave buddies, Karpenos recommends joining meetup.com or trying a friendship app.
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Taurus is an earth sign that values stability, nature, self-care, and luxury. To meet new friends, make yourself a regular at a coffee shop or take pottery classes at a local studio. You can also book a high-demand restaurant in advance and invite your friends to bring a platonic plus-one you haven't met yet. That way, you're treating yourself and meeting others who want to do the same.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Among their many traits, Geminis are very curious, Karpenos says. "Taking a class on a subject of interest is a great way to meet fellow inquisitive people." You could also become a regular at a new restaurant, sitting in the same place every time — bonus points if it's at the bar or a community table — and chatting with the people next to you.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Cancer is a cardinal water sign characterized by softness and sensitivity. If you're a Cancer, try making new friends by taking a cooking class or regularly visiting your local farmers' market and mingling with the vendors. Or host a dinner party and invite your friends to bring a friend they think you'll get along with. A quiet night at home of meeting new people is a great opportunity to make new connections.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
Who's up for a theme party? Leos, usually. If you're one of these creative, charismatic, and expressive folks, try meeting equally passionate people at a dance or art class, then be sure to invite them to a theme party you've planned down to the finest details.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Virgo is a mutable earth sign known for being organized, thoughtful, and analytical. "Mutable signs thrive off friends-of-friends energy because they are great at blending in and finding common interests with a wide variety of people," Karpenos says. To make new friends, put yourself in places where you can begin building a network. For example, you might try joining a coworking space.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
Libras are ruled by Venus, the planet associated with art and beauty, and value balance, justice, and fairness. To meet friends you can hang with harmoniously, attend a regular yoga class or spend time at a local museum or art gallery. Bonus points for attending a gallery opening for an artist you've had your eye on.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
As a water sign known for emotional intensity, Scorpios enjoy deep conversations with small groups of people, Karpenos says. Try hosting a party with some plus-ones and play a game like "We're Not Really Strangers" or head to a local bookstore to hear your favorite author read their newest release and stick around after to meet some other fans.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
Sagittarius is a fire sign associated with travel, higher learning, philosophy, and religion. "It's no wonder Sagittarius signs are so curious and adventurous," Karpenos says. For these next-level thinkers, she recommends finding a spot where you can learn a new language; traveling solo and staying in a hostel; or applying for a study- or work-abroad program.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
Capricorns are known for their seriousness, focus, and ambition. To channel your type-A personality into some friend-making fun, try joining a book club or a networking group in your chosen field. You're sure to meet others with similar drive.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Aquarius is a fixed air sign representing eccentricity, intelligence, open-mindedness, and independence. To meet others who are just as smart and approachable, try volunteering in your community, becoming a regular at a local coffee shop, or going to an open-mic night at a wine bar in your neighborhood.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
A mutable water sign, "Pisces are known for their nomadic, escapist urge to travel and their go-with-the-flow energy," Karpenos says. She recommends meeting new friends on a yoga or meditation retreat or becoming a regular at your local swimming pool. As one of the most sensitive and artistic signs in the zodiac, you could also try taking a creative-writing course and inviting a possible new friend for coffee after.
